TL;DR
- One 15-slide pitch deck costs about $0–$45 a month with an AI tool, $500–$5,000 from a freelancer, $799–$1,500 from a fixed-price studio, or $2,500–$15,000 from a specialist pitch deck design agency.
- Design subscriptions charge monthly instead ($549 to $10,000+). They only make sense if you need ongoing design, not one deck.
- Investors decide fast. In one 24,541-deck study, 16% of views ended in under 10 seconds.
- Pay for strategy and writing only if your story isn't clear yet. If it is, design-only is enough.
- Whoever you hire, get editable source files and full ownership in writing.
Most pitch deck design services show you one price: their own. That makes it hard to tell whether $1,500 is a bargain or a rip-off.
So we lined up published prices for the same job: one 15-slide seed deck. We compared five routes: an AI tool, a freelancer, a fixed-price studio, a specialist agency and a design subscription. To be clear, we didn't commission five decks. Every number comes from the provider's own pricing page or a cost guide we link to, checked on 20 October 2026.
Why does this matter? Because investors don't read decks the way founders hope. Papermark analysed 24,541 decks for its Fundraising Report 2026. It found that 16% of views end inside ten seconds, and fewer than half of investors reach the last slide. Good design won't save a weak business. But a cluttered deck can lose a good one before slide two.
By the end, you'll know what each option costs, what you get, and which one fits your raise.
What do pitch deck design services include?
"Pitch deck design" covers three different jobs. Know which one you're buying before you compare prices.
Design only, writing + design, or strategy + design
Design only. You hand over finished slide content. The designer fixes layout, charts, fonts and visual flow. It's the cheapest option and the right one if your story is already tight.
Writing + design. Someone interviews you, writes the slide copy, then designs it. Slidebean's $799 package works this way: a questionnaire, a one-hour call, an analyst who writes the content, then design.
Strategy + design. A consultant pressure-tests your market size, business model and ask before anything is written. Prices jump to $5,000 or more here, and timelines stretch to three or four weeks.
What's almost never included
None of the services we reviewed include a full financial model in their core package. Most don't build investor lists or run outreach either. If a provider bundles those in, read the scope carefully and ask who does the work.
Pitch deck design services compared: one 15-slide deck, 5 ways
The first four options are one-off prices. Subscriptions are recurring, so we compare them over six months in the next section.

AI tools and templates
Gamma has a free plan, and Beautiful.ai's Pro plan is $14.50 a month billed annually, or $45 billed monthly. You get a decent layout in minutes.
The catch is that a tool can't tell you your story is unclear. It also produces the same look many other founders are sending. Use AI to draft. Don't send the result to a lead investor without a human pass.
Freelancers
According to Waveup's 2026 cost guide, template-based decks of 10–15 slides on Upwork run $500–$1,500. Custom decks of 15–20 slides with two or three revision rounds run $1,500–$5,000. Quality swings widely, so judge by portfolio, not price.
Freelancers work well when you need one deck and already have the words. They're riskier when you need fast changes three weeks later and your designer has moved on to another client.
Fixed-price pitch deck studios
These sit between freelancers and agencies, with a public price and a fixed scope:
- Slidebean: $799 for up to 20 slides in four business days. Includes content writing, two design revision rounds and three content rounds.
- Pitch Deck Creators: $1,500 for up to 15 slides in 48 hours, design only, with editable Figma, PowerPoint or Google Slides files. Writing plus design starts at $5,000.
For a single investor deck, this is often the best value. The limit is scope. A one-pager or a sales version is a new purchase.
Pitch deck design agencies
Waveup charges from $100 per slide for design only and $5,000+ for strategy, narrative and design, with delivery in 2 business days to 2 weeks. Across specialist agencies, Waveup's cost guide puts typical projects at $2,500–$15,000. Hype Presentations, for example, starts at $2,500.
You're paying for people who've worked on hundreds of raises. That's worth it when your story needs real work, or when the round is large enough that a few thousand dollars barely registers.
Design subscriptions
A subscription gives you a design team for a flat monthly fee instead of a price per project. The range is wide:
- Design Shifu: $549/month (Starter), $749 (Growth), $1,099 (Scale), billed monthly with no contract. First drafts in 24 hours, unlimited revisions and source files on every plan. Presentation decks are one of the design services we offer.
- ManyPixels: $699/month billed monthly, or $559/month billed yearly. Presentations are included on its entry plan, per ManyPixels' pricing page.
- Superside: "starting at $10,000 per month", per Superside's own pitch deck guide. It's built for enterprise teams.
The honest trade-off: most subscriptions are design-first. If you need someone to build your narrative from scratch, a writing-led studio or agency may suit you better. Before you sign up anywhere, ask three things: is pitch deck work covered on the plan you're looking at, which file formats you'll get, and whether the team helps with the storyline or only designs.
How much does pitch deck design cost over a full raise?
The pitch deck design cost you're quoted is rarely the cost you end up paying. The real total depends on three things: how many slides, how much writing, and how many decks you'll need over the next six months.
What pushes the price up
- Writing and strategy. Pitch Deck Creators goes from $1,500 to $5,000+ when writing is added. Waveup goes from $100 a slide to $5,000+.
- Custom charts. Turning a spreadsheet into clean traction and revenue charts takes time.
- Animation. A deck you present live may need motion. A deck you email doesn't.
- Rush delivery. Fast turnarounds often cap the slide count or cost extra.
- No brand yet. If you don't have a logo, colours and fonts, someone has to make them first.
One deck vs six months of design: a worked example
If you need one deck and nothing else, skip the subscription. A $799–$1,500 studio gives you one price, a defined scope and, on some packages, writing. That's simpler and usually cheaper.
Most raises don't stop at one deck, though. Papermark found the median gap between an investor's first view and an announced round is six months. Over that time, founders often need more design. Here's a realistic six-month list, with our assumptions stated:
Now price those 50 slides:
Treat this as a rough comparison, not a quote. Many freelancers charge less for reworked slides, and a subscription only pays off if you actually use it each month. It also depends on what your plan covers. But it shows the pattern. Per-slide pricing gets expensive when design work keeps coming, and a flat fee gets cheaper per slide the more you use it. Our guide to what graphic designers charge runs the same maths for other design work.
What do investors actually look at in a pitch deck?
Startup pitch deck design should follow how investors read, not what looks impressive. Here's what the data says, and what to put in your designer brief.
The numbers
From Papermark's 24,541-deck dataset:
- 12-page decks got the most views (34 on average) and the highest share of return visits (68%). The most common length was 9–16 pages.
- Decks that opened with traction in the first three slides got 20% more views.
- Financials held above-median attention, yet only about four in ten decks included them.
- 24% of decks were still unopened three days after sending.
One caveat: this data only covers decks shared through Papermark's own platform. Treat it as a strong signal, not a law.
Earlier DocSend research reported by TechCrunch points the same way. Investors spent 24% less time on decks in 2022 than in 2021, and founders had "just under three minutes" to win a meeting.
What to tell your designer
- Aim for about 12 slides. Put everything else in an appendix.
- Move traction up to slide two or three, not slide nine.
- Include a simple financial summary slide. Most founders skip it, and investors look for it.
- One message per slide, readable in five seconds.
- Use a clean, readable font pair. Our list of the best fonts for presentations is a quick place to start.
A tight brief saves you a full revision round. Our guide on how to brief a designer has a template you can copy.
When should you hire a pitch deck designer?
Hire about four to six weeks before your first investor meeting. That gives you a week to fix the story, one or two weeks for design, and time to test the deck with friendly founders or angels.
Don't wait until a partner meeting is booked for Thursday. A 48-hour studio can rescue you, but rush jobs leave no room for a second draft, and that's usually where a deck gets good.
Plan for after the deck, too. Rounds take months, and investor presentation design doesn't end when you send the first email. Traction slides go stale, and new investors ask for new versions. If decks will be a regular part of your month, an unlimited presentation design setup saves you from starting a new contract every time.
6 red flags when hiring pitch deck design services
- No editable files. You should get the native PowerPoint, Google Slides, Keynote or Figma file, not just a PDF. Otherwise every number change costs you money.
- Ownership isn't in writing. The contract should say you own the final design. Design Shifu transfers full ownership on delivery. Ask every provider for the same.
- "$500M raised" with no names. Big totals are easy to claim. Ask for two or three named clients you can look up.
- Recycled templates. If three portfolio decks share the same layout, yours probably will too.
- Vague revision limits. "Revisions included" can mean one round. Get the number before you pay.
- No word on confidentiality. You'll share revenue, burn and cap table data. Ask whether they'll sign an NDA and who can see your files.
Conclusion: pick the option that matches your raise
There's no single best pitch deck design service. There's the best fit for where you are.
- Story still fuzzy? Pay for writing and strategy at a studio or agency.
- Story clear, one deck needed? A fixed-price studio or a good freelancer will do it well, and it's usually the cheaper choice.
- Need more than one deck? If you expect to update traction slides, create investor teasers, or prepare sales and board presentations over the next few months, a design subscription may be worth considering. You pay a recurring fee rather than starting a new project each time.
Whichever route you choose, compare deliverables, revision limits, turnaround and ownership terms before you pay. Then see Design Shifu's presentation design service to check whether a plan fits your needs. Plans start at $549 a month, with first drafts in 24 hours.
FAQ
How much do pitch deck design services cost?
Expect $500–$5,000 from a freelancer, $799–$1,500 from a fixed-price studio, and $2,500–$15,000 from a specialist agency. Design subscriptions charge monthly, from $549 to over $10,000. AI tools cost $0–$45 a month but leave the writing and judgement to you.
How long does it take to design a pitch deck?
Fixed-price studios deliver in two to four business days. Agencies take anywhere from two days to four weeks, depending on whether writing or strategy is included. Allow four to six weeks in total if you want time for feedback and a second draft.
How many slides should a pitch deck have?
Around 12. In Papermark's 2026 data, 12-page decks got the most investor views and the most return visits. Put supporting detail in an appendix rather than the main deck.
Can AI design my pitch deck?
AI tools like Gamma and Beautiful.ai can produce a usable first draft in minutes. They can't tell you whether your story makes sense, and their layouts are common. Use AI to draft, then have a human designer sharpen the slides investors read first.
Do I own the pitch deck design?
You should. Ask for full ownership and the editable source file in writing before you pay. Design Shifu transfers ownership on delivery and includes source files on every plan.
Should a pitch deck designer sign an NDA?
Yes, if you're sharing financials or cap table details. Some agencies, such as Waveup, say they'll sign one on request. Ask before you send any sensitive numbers.
